The Solution
Segregation of waste at Source and its Decentralized Processing. Community participation has a direct bearing on efficient SWM. They have to be educated on the rudiments of handling waste and proper practices of storing t in their own bins at the household, i shop and establishment level.
Composting
is the decomposition of organic matter by microorganism in a warm, moist, aerobic and anaerobic environment. There are many composting projects in the country creating awareness among the people.
Solid Waste Management Rules
■ Waste should be segregated at source into valuable dry waste like plastic tin glass, paper, etc. and hand over recyclable material to either the authorized recyclers or to the urban local body.
■ The bio-degradable waste should be processed, treated and disposed of through composting or bio- mechanization within the premises as far as possible. The residual waste shall be given to the waste collectors or agency as directed by the local authority.
■ A waste generator will have to pay “User Fee” to waste collector and “Sot Fine” littering and non-segregation. National Green Tribunal has issued bailable warrants against non-compliance to the above said SWM rules, I post the show-cause notice.
